"The sounds of
Bidston"
"A pleasant June evening in Bidston"
- sound recording 2011.
This was a hazy summer's eve and I had some recording equipment set up in the
Observatory. I had the windows open, huge sash windows that would grunt as
they resisted being opened, especially after having been sealed shut for the
harsh winters up there.
The audio picks up the sound of St Oswald's
Church in Bidston Village, Blackbirds singing in the woods, leaves being blown
by the wind and other distant sounds that really capture the sprit of a
midsummer's evening up on Bidston Hill. You can "hear" the M53, but thankfully
the wind assisted the ambience by blowing traffic noise the other way!
Often up on the
Observatory roof you would hear sounds from the docks, or maybe the train on
the now rarely used jointed track as it built up speed coming out of Bidston
station.
