Just be careful, and if you do see something.......

Bidston Hill is a magical place, able in the blink of an eye to thrust you back to peaceful times past; but the 3% danger rule in the area will always apply, as I have personally discovered over the years living there as a resident. I have been attacked, had bricks thrown at several cars I have owned, and met people who I subsequently discovered were 'on the run', just be careful when you're up there, and always keep your mobile with you. I saved a young mans life up there one night, who had drunk himself to sleep within the Observatory grounds and had rolled onto one of his broken beer bottles, inadvertently slashing a main artery in his arm. If I hadn't happen to look out of the window that night and seen him, lying there, I think things might otherwise have had a tragic conclusion.

Hours earlier he was spotted urinating against a wall, with a bag full of lager in tow, heckling walkers on the hill.
When the police arrived they could scarcely believe their eyes, the sergeant looked at me and said "You are kidding me, right??". I knew the officer was astonished, if only because this youth wanted to walk home, with blood pouring out of his arm. I had to keep yelling at the lad to keep his arm raised, otherwise he would just lose more blood.
He thought it was funny, and even seemed set to 'have a go' at my good self, who had just phoned his life back into existence from the brink of darkness.
We managed to get him into the ambulance at the bottom of Wilding Way, which went to Arrowe Park.

===================================

A good tip for solitary walkers upon the hill when confronted by the sound of a distant mob on the hill is to pretend that you're on your phone; simply make up an imaginary conversation or better still phone someone for real. My 'Scouse' accent saved me one night outside Euston station when I'd missed the last train, I was marooned outside a deserted station. I scared off two would be attackers who followed me to the taxi rank by screaming my full on scouse at them, telling them to eff off, it saved me as they were definitely going to mug me. Most of all, do not show fear towards these hooligans and do not look them in the eye at any distance. Simulation in these cases is the best form of defence, do not try to beat them with force, your common sense will save you.

I know this all sounds like pretty desperate stuff, but again the 3% rule has been illustrated here and believe me I have had to face some horrific people up there who want only to find violence, just be careful that's all. On a far more positive note, Bidston Hill remains on of the most enchanting parts of Wirral, with some truly historically significant and momentous connections with the world's past. That the pathway of the Holy Grail and a lukewarm can of Carlsberg may have crossed the same path really doesn't matter.
